Pretty nice man! Track is too quiet overall. I do think the drums could be turned down some and the bit crush on them is a little much at times. At 2:52, things get a too offset. I also think you should shorten this a bit as it is so repetitive. Loving the feel of this, reminds me of the kind of music one of my friends makes.

Those are some nice wubs ya got there! :) This track feels a bit too slow for its feel imo, but that's just my personal preference. Another issue i do have is the pads seem a little harsh, could probably be mixed a bit better. Intro and outro seem a little empty to me, but maybe thats what you were going for. Little repetitive as well, i think you could easily shave a few minutes off. Love the buildups, and although you do have wubs after a few seconds in each drop, i think it could have a greater impact by having an initial bass growl.

Awesome! Cello did get a little shaky in the bridge tho lol.....what happened in 1:51? Love the second drop with the dubstep, nice stuff man. I like how you managed to make a classical-sounding progression using synths during the drops.

DevinChin responds:

The cello was played live by my friend, and it's not an easy piece so I can't blame him. I did my best to pitch correct though. The sixth at 1:51 was too wide, so no matter what I did one note would be sharp and the other would be flat. In any case, it wasn't noticeable enough to warrant another take. Thanks for the feedback!

This definitely does sound like a second Zaphkiel. Honestly though, I'm really just not feeling the melody nearly as much as Zaphkiel. A good way to put it is that with this, I have to to try to get it stuck in my head, whereas Zaphkiel immediately stuck. I feel like this is trying a bit too hard to recreate Zaphkiel, and in the process, loses what was special about it. Especially the drop just doesn't feel like a natural progression.

DevinChin responds:

I wasn't trying to recreate Zaphkiel, at least not intentionally. Some of the melodies that wound up in this track were actually written before Zaphkiel. The only elements that I consciously transferred over were the primary chord progression (which, I admit, is a rather big part of it) and the chiptune bridge section. Any other similarities, I think, arose simply from the conventions of the genre. I appreciate the thoughtful criticism, though, thanks!
